The town of Albarracín is located in the Sierra of the same name, a place that has been inhabited for thousands of years. In fact, epipaleolithic and neolithic cave paintings dating back to between 6000 and 1000 BCE have been found in the surrounding area.
During the Iron Age, the Celtic Lobetani settled in Albarracín, which was later called Lobetum by the Romans and Santa María de Oriente by the Visigoths. Its current name derives from the Banu Razin, a Berber clan that settled in the 10th century and was responsible for building the Torre del Andador and the castle (the former alcazaba).
Today, Albarracín is recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, is a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status, and, as if its historical heritage weren’t enough, is also a popular destination for adventure sports and nature enthusiasts.
Overlooking the Guadalaviar River, Albarracín offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, where nature and history intertwine.
Wander through its narrow alleys, discover hidden plazas, and marvel at architectural treasures like the 10th-century Moorish castle and the stunning cathedral.
Declared a National Monument, Albarracín is a dream destination that invites you to lose yourself in its magical ambiance.
