Veruela Abbey is a Cistercian abbey dating from the 12th century, the oldest Cistercian abbey in Aragón.
Its architecture is mostly Romanesque and Gothic, with a Byzantine chapter house and a cloister which is an exact representation of that of Westminster Abbey in London.
After the general secularization of the 19th century, the abbey became a hostelry, which housed many famous characters such as Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, one of Spain’s greatest Romantic writers. It was said that the airs of the Moncayo Range were good for the health, and many people travelled to the abbey to find a cure to their tuberculosis and other ailments.
We’ll also visit the wine museum, where we’ll be transported in time and learn the importance and magic of wine, from the most traditional methods to the newest technologies.
Afterwards, let yourself be amazed by the atmosphere of Veruela Abbey.
